What is Brain Balance, and what does it help with?
Brain Balance is a personalized, non-medical program for children, teens, and adults. Rather than working on one symptom at a time, we look at foundational brain-body functions — including sensory, motor, visual, auditory, and cognitive areas — that support focus, learning, coordination, behavior, and self-regulation. We then build an individualized program designed to strengthen those areas.
Is Brain Balance the same as tutoring?
How is Brain Balance different from occupational therapy, counseling, or other therapy?
Occupational therapy, counseling, and other therapies often focus on a specific area of need, such as motor skills, sensory processing, emotional health, or behavior. Brain Balance takes a broader approach by looking at how multiple brain and body systems — including sensory, motor, visual, auditory, cognitive, and reflex function — are working together.
We use that information to build one personalized program designed to strengthen the underlying functions that support focus, learning, coordination, behavior, and self-regulation.
Is Brain Balance a non-medication approach to ADHD and other challenges? Does it replace medication or therapy?
What if we've already tried tutoring, therapy, medication, or other programs?
That’s very common, and often it’s exactly why families reach out. Many have already tried tutoring, counseling, therapy, medication, school interventions, or other approaches and may have seen some progress, but still feel like something is missing.
Those supports can be valuable, but they often address a specific part of the struggle. Brain Balance looks more broadly at the foundational brain-body functions that support things like attention, learning, regulation, coordination, and processing to better understand what may still be contributing to the challenges you’re seeing.
The assessment helps us determine whether there are areas we can strengthen that haven’t been addressed yet — and whether Brain Balance makes sense as the next step.
Do you work with kids with ADHD, autism, dyslexia, anxiety, or similar challenges? Does my child need a diagnosis?
Do you diagnose or test for ADHD, autism, or learning disorders?
No. Brain Balance does not diagnose ADHD, autism, dyslexia, or other learning disorders, and our assessment is not a medical or diagnostic evaluation.
What we do is different. A diagnosis can help identify what a set of challenges is called; our assessment looks more closely at the underlying areas of brain and body function that may be connected to those challenges. Depending on the individual, that can include attention and working memory, sensory and motor processing, visual and auditory processing, coordination, retained developmental reflexes, and how those systems are working together.
The goal is to better understand what may be contributing to the struggles you’re seeing so we can determine whether Brain Balance is a good fit and, if so, what areas we would want to strengthen.
What ages do you work with?
How do I know if Brain Balance is a good fit for my child?
What happens during the Brain Balance assessment?
The assessment is a one-time appointment, typically about 90 minutes (sometimes shorter for very young children). We look at areas that can include primitive reflexes, coordination, sensory and motor function, visual and auditory processing, and cognition, to better understand how your child is functioning.
The process also includes time with a Director to talk more deeply about the concerns you’re seeing and how those challenges may connect within the Brain Balance framework. After the assessment, we review the results with you, explain what we found, and — if Brain Balance is a good fit — recommend a personalized plan. If it isn’t the right fit, we’ll tell you.
What will my child actually do during the assessment?
Your child will complete a series of short activities designed to look at how different brain-body systems are functioning. That can include balance and coordination tasks, rhythm and timing activities, fine and gross motor exercises, core strength, visual and auditory processing activities, cognitive tasks involving focus, processing, and working memory, and an evaluation of retained developmental reflexes. Some parts may feel more like exercises, movement games, or "brain games," while others are more structured activities or tests. We may also use specific equipment or activities to look at areas such as vestibular function and visual tracking. The goal is to gather a broad picture of how your child is functioning across multiple systems — not to see whether they can "pass" or "fail" any one task.
How long is the program, how often do we come in, and do you offer at-home or hybrid options?
Most Brain Balance programs run approximately four to six months, although program length varies based on the assessment results and the program recommended.
Our traditional in-center program meets three times per week, typically during after-school hours. We also offer hybrid and at-home options for families who need more flexibility. Those programs include at least one private, live 1:1 session with a Brain Balance coach each week, along with additional planned work completed at home. Hybrid formats include one or two in-center sessions each week.
Your Director will recommend the program structure that best fits your child’s needs, assessment results, and your family’s schedule.
How quickly will we see results?
Every person responds differently, so we won’t promise a specific result or timeline. That said, Brain Balance is an intensive, structured program, and many families begin noticing meaningful changes within the first several weeks. Other improvements build more gradually as the program progresses.
Most programs are completed in approximately four to six months, so the goal is not indefinite support — it is to identify the areas that need strengthening, work on them consistently and intensively, and create meaningful change over a defined period of time.
We track progress throughout the program using objective measures as well as what you’re seeing at home, at school, and in everyday life.
Is there research behind Brain Balance, and does it actually work?
Yes. Brain Balance has eight peer-reviewed studies published between 2020 and 2024 examining areas including attention, cognition, behavior, emotional functioning, and developmental outcomes. Those studies have reported measurable improvements in a number of those areas, with research collaborators including McLean Hospital, a Harvard Medical School affiliate, and Cambridge Brain Sciences.
The research is promising, although the studies vary in design and size and more controlled research is still needed. Individual results vary, which is why we start with an assessment to determine whether Brain Balance appears to be a good fit for your child and what areas may need to be strengthened.
If you'd like to review the research yourself, you can see the published studies and summaries on our Brain Balance Research & Results page.
How much does Brain Balance cost?
The initial Brain Balance assessment is $295, and completing the assessment does not obligate you to enroll in a program. If Brain Balance is recommended, tuition is based on your child’s individualized plan and covers a comprehensive program that typically runs over several months rather than being priced as individual visits.
Because every recommendation is personalized, the total investment varies. Your Director will walk you through the recommended program, the tuition, and available payment options so you understand the full commitment before making a decision.
Does insurance cover Brain Balance? Can I use HSA or FSA funds?
Brain Balance is a private-pay, non-medical program, so it is not billed through traditional health insurance. Some families are able to use HSA or FSA funds depending on their individual plan, although coverage is not guaranteed.
If Brain Balance is recommended, your Director can also walk you through the available payment options and help you understand the financial side before you make a decision.

Growing up, I knew I wanted to be a teacher. Being raised in a family of great educators, I saw the difference they made in individuals’ lives. Despite my desire to teach, my parents encouraged me to explore other areas of study, which led me to psychology. I graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a BA in Psychology and went on to earn my MA in Marriage and Family Counseling from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.

Our Whole Brain Approach
The brain can continue to adapt and change throughout life. This ability, often called neuroplasticity, is influenced by practice, experience, movement, sensory input, and learning.
Brain Balance uses a coordinated combination of sensory-motor and cognitive activities designed to strengthen the foundational skills involved in attention, regulation, coordination, learning, and executive functioning.
Rather than focusing on one symptom or skill in isolation, we look at how someone is functioning across multiple developmental areas. The program is then personalized around the patterns identified during the assessment.
Areas of focus may include:
- Attention and focus
- Executive functioning
- Memory and learning
- Coordination and sensory processing
- Emotional regulation and behavior
- Organization and problem-solving
- Motivation and follow-through
Our goal is to help each participant build stronger foundational skills that support greater success at home, at school, at work, and in everyday life.
A Personalized Program to Meet Your Needs
Every Brain Balance program begins with a comprehensive assessment that helps us understand each person’s strengths, challenges, and areas that may need support.
We use those findings to create an individualized plan that may include sensory-motor activities, cognitive exercises, home practice, coaching, and nutrition guidance.
The type, frequency, and progression of activities are adjusted based on the participant’s needs and response throughout the program.
What to Expect During the Assessment
The assessment includes sensory-motor and cognitive activities designed to help us better understand each person’s strengths, challenges, and areas that may need support.
We look at skills connected to attention, learning, coordination, emotional regulation, behavior, and everyday functioning.
Our team uses the assessment findings to guide recommendations, answer questions, and create an individualized plan when a family moves forward with the program. Results are reviewed with the family as part of that process.
1:1 Coaching and Support
Our coaches and directors guide each participant and family throughout the program. They monitor progress, adjust activities as skills develop, and help families understand what they are seeing along the way.
Support may also include behavioral strategies, nutrition guidance, help building healthier routines, and preparation for school or educational meetings when needed.
1:1 Nutrition Sessions
Nutrition is one part of our integrated approach and is designed to support overall brain and body wellness alongside the sensory-motor, cognitive, and home components of the Brain Balance Program.
The Balance 360 Nutrition System provides personalized support for building healthier, more consistent eating habits. The program focuses on practical changes that fit each participant’s needs, preferences, and lifestyle.
Depending on the individual, sessions may include support with picky eating, expanding food variety, meal planning, grocery choices, eating routines, and finding realistic ways to include more fresh and whole foods.
On-Demand Resources
Participants and families have access to a Brain Balance Program Portal with helpful resources they can use throughout the program.
The portal includes exercise and support videos, nutrition content, parent resources, and other tools designed to help families stay informed and engaged between sessions.

About Brain Balance of Oklahoma City
At Brain Balance of Oklahoma City, we believe many people are capable of more than they are currently able to show.
Many of the families who come to us have already tried tutoring, counseling, therapy, medication, or other interventions. Some have seen meaningful progress. Others still feel like something is missing. Our goal is not to replace those services. It is to help families better understand why they or their child may be struggling and whether Brain Balance is an appropriate next step.
Brain Balance is a personalized, non-medical developmental program designed to strengthen the foundational skills that support attention, emotional regulation, learning, coordination, executive functioning, and everyday performance.
We work with children, teens, and adults experiencing challenges related to attention, learning, behavior, sensory processing, executive functioning, and social development. Families often reach out when these challenges are present with or without diagnoses such as ADHD, dyslexia, autism spectrum disorder, anxiety, or oppositional behavior.
Every person begins with a comprehensive assessment that helps us identify strengths, challenges, and opportunities for growth. From there, we build an individualized plan that combines sensory-motor activities, cognitive training, coaching, home exercises, and nutrition guidance. We also measure progress throughout the program so families can see what is changing over time.
Brain Balance does not diagnose or treat medical conditions. Instead, we focus on understanding how someone is functioning across multiple developmental areas and strengthening the skills and connections that support greater success at home, at school, at work, and in everyday life.
If Brain Balance is not the right fit, we will tell you.
Brain Balance of Oklahoma City has served families since 2015. We invite you to visit our center, meet our team, and learn more about whether Brain Balance may be the right next step for you or your child.
