Dr. Isaac Johnson DC
I grew up in Owasso, Oklahoma. I earned my BS in Health and Exercise Science from the University of Oklahoma. During my time there, I realized my goal was to help people that were not getting help elsewhere. I enrolled in Parker Chiropractic College in Dallas, TX and began learning how to help those in need. During my time there, I discovered my passion for functional neurology, and I saw how addressing the specific cause of a problem is what will gain the greatest result. I learned about Brain Balance while hearing Dr. Melillo, the founder of Brain Balance, speak at a neurology seminar. I knew this was what I had been searching for and that this could change the lives of kids and families that were not getting the help they desperately needed. I shared what I had learned about Brain Balance with my wife, whom at the time was an elementary school teacher in Irving, TX, and we began working towards bringing Brain Balance to Oklahoma to meet the need of so many struggling children. Now that Brain Balance is open in Tulsa, it is a joy to go to work each day. I see the kids growing and developing and hear the stories from their parents about the changes they are seeing in their children that they doubted were possible. A 6 yr. old girl, in Kindergarten for the second time, ran in one day with her notebook full of words she had been spelling when six weeks prior she could barely write her name. An 11 yr. old boy with Asperger’s, had a twenty minute conversation over the phone with his aunt where he was asking “why”, and was giving his own responses that weren’t scripted from TV shows he had seen. A 7 yr. old boy with ADHD, in remedial math and reading classes, is now acing his tests and his teacher has said he is having the best days at school she has ever seen. Stories like these are why we brought Brain Balance to Tulsa. Lives are changing every day and we hope to start making changes in your child’s life very soon.
Growing up, I knew I wanted to be a teacher. Being raised in a family of great educators, I saw the difference they made in individuals’ lives. Despite my desire to teach, my parents encouraged me to explore other areas of study, which led me to psychology. I graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a BA in Psychology and went on to earn my MA in Marriage and Family Counseling from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Throughout my schooling, I found many ways to fulfill my desire by teaching swim lessons, Sunday school classes, or substitute teaching, my passion and longing for student growth remained strong. After “exploring other areas of study,” I received my certificate and began teaching third grade. I absolutely loved it! In addition to teaching my students the curriculum, I implemented techniques and strategies in the classroom that help activate and stimulate the brain. I began to see tremendous changes in my students. As my students began to succeed, I started looking for ways to reach more students. It was at this time that my husband came home and told me about Brain Balance. I am so excited to bring Brain Balance to Tulsa. Every day at Brain Balance is an exciting one because with each new day comes a new success with our students. I feel truly blessed to get to celebrate with parents as their child begins making eye contact, interacting with other kids, succeeding at school, or even trying new foods for the very first time. It is so rewarding to have the chance to meet students’ specific needs and help them achieve more!
Education & Marketing Director
I grew up in New Hampshire, always having dreams of becoming a teacher like my mom. While I was studying Education at Gordon College in Massachusetts, I became aware of brain-based teaching and quickly fell in love for all things neuroscience. Ten years later, my family and I moved to Oklahoma, never envisioning I’d find Brain Balance—and the ability to help children with this life-changing program. I joined the team in 2014, working as the Assessor, Program Director, Center Director, and now after a short sabbatical, switched gears towards helping spread the word about Brain Balance through Education and Marketing.
Brain Balance not only provided me with a career helping families, but it also helped my family personally. Our 7-year-old son completed the program in 2018. With Brain Balance, our family has found more peace in our home. Colin has conquered his emotional outbursts, learned how to express his feelings, and is able to respond to correction better; along with being a happy, fun-loving and creative boy! In my spare time, I love drinking coffee, writing, reading the latest book or listening to a catchy podcast.
I was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. I earned a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science with a minor in Education from The University of Southern California (USC). As an undergraduate, I completed two U.S. Congressional internships and developed an interest in education policy. Two weeks after graduating from USC, I moved back to Washington, D.C. to begin a career in education policy. While in our nation’s capital, a growing desire for teaching experience prompted me to change career paths. I returned to New York to embark upon the next phase of my journey. I graduated with a Master’s in Early Childhood and Special Education from Teachers College, Columbia University. Before moving to Tulsa from New York City, I provided play-based, early intervention services to toddlers in their homes and schools. I was also an Early Childhood and Special Education teacher with the New York City Department of Education for five years. I am passionate about working with children who have diverse needs and supporting their families. I enjoy reading, listening to music, riding my bike, and serving in the community. I am honored to be a part of such a talented and dedicated team of professionals here at Brain Balance of Tulsa.
