Mary Baker is a former teacher and a Board-Certified Cognitive Specialist. She joined Brain Balance Achievement Centers in South Carolina almost ten years ago, with six years of experience in the field of education. She graduated from Temple University in Pennsylvania with a bachelor’s degree in Early, Elementary and Special Education.
Mary’s educational background includes serving as a Lead Program Coordinator of Supplemental Education Services for Sylvan Learning Center, Assistant Director of an early childhood program, Lead Early Intervention Preschool Teacher, and 5th-grade Learning Support Educator of a Severe Emotional Disturbance class.
Disheartened by the lack of gains academically, socially, and behaviorally with the children she worked with, she sought out a better way. She found it, a true measurable positive impact for student progress, Brain Balance. Since them helping children achieve their full potential is Mary’s and mission.
During her almost ten years as a member of the Brain Balance organization, she has witnessed and been a part of hundreds of children reaching that fullest potential. She is thrilled to be a part of bringing Brain Balance to Palm Beach Gardens.
Shay Smith comes to Brain Balance with extensive experience in both childcare and in customer service – two attributes that are paramount to success in her role as Assistant Director of our Palm Beach Gardens location.
Born and raised in Georgia, Shay studied at Auburn University in Alabama before opting to work with children at a Bright Horizons school in the state. Shay blossomed in that role, and years later took over her own classroom at another prominent childcare facility — The Learning Experience — in New Jersey; where she was named Teacher of the Year in 2017.
In between and since, after the birth of her daughter, Shay worked in the customer service field for the likes of AT&T and Apple, where her customers and managers consistently cited her for her outstanding listening skills and adept handling of customer needs.
Parents and children visiting the Brain Balance facility in Palm Beach Gardens will immediately feel at ease by Shay, whose warming smile and can-do attitude will let you know you are genuinely welcomed. For many whose first experience with Shay will be by phone – you’ll feel confident that you have arrived at a place of caring and uplifting spirit, where your child will learn to grow, prosper and overcome challenges.
Shay lives in Palm Beach County with her fiancé and their daughter and loves music, movies, and of course, working in an environment where the well-being of children is the top priority. The first day you hear from Shay will be the day you and your child will begin to see outstanding progress in your child’s development.
