What is Brain Balance and how can it help my child?

Michaelle and Matt Selcke knew early on that something wasn’t right about their son’s development. But when James’ pediatrician told them to wait it out and his behavior worsened, the Selckes tried a different approach that changed all of their lives and lead them down a path to impact other families.

James “JT” Selcke, now 12, was a very “busy” boy, his parents recalled. He avoided naps, had horrible tantrums and regressed in potty training. Many parents might have reasoned the behavior was for a budding toddler, but Michaelle Selcke, an occupational therapist, knew it was something more.

JT at 5 was diagnosed with severe ADHD and regularly visited the principal as a first-grader for his disruptive behavior, finally receiving multiple prescriptions for ADHD and anxiety.

“We were giving him medication to counter the medication, it was awful,” Matt Selcke said. “The medications worked and he wasn’t hyperactive, but he wasn’t my son.”

They soon sought out other solutions, which led them to the Brain Balance Achievement Center in Golden in January 2014. Within three months, JT was off medication and could function in a classroom, and the Selckes decided to open a Brain Balance center in Superior, thanks to the impact it had on their lives.
