Dr. Mark Goldenberg of the Brain Balance Center of Norwalk was recently featured in Norwalk Citizen discussing Dr. Melillo’s Brain Balance Program for ADHD & Autism. According to Goldenberg, the common thread that links these disorders is a miscommunication between the left and right sides of the brain. In an interview with the Citizen, he used the analogy of a symphony to better illustrate the point. “In a perfectly tuned orchestra everyone is playing synchronized, playing at the same time,” he said. “In people with these disorders, it’s the same as having the percussion playing a fast tempo and maybe the strings playing at a slower tempo, in a different key….Areas of the brain are just not processing at the same rate.”

For the many children in Georgia with learning differences – more than 182,000 reported in Atlanta metro schools alone – dealing with daily schoolwork can be discouraging. Kids Enabled™ formed to address all kinds of issues of children who fall within the broad spectrum of learning differences.
A “learning difference” is defined as any neurological disorder that impedes learning and can include a speech impediment, dyslexia, dysgraphia, ADHD, auditory processing, language processing, vision processing, autism and Asperger’s syndrome, as well as other related disorders. Kids Enabled™ seeks not to label children with particular diagnoses, but seeks to provide information that will address symptoms that affect learning.

Dr. Robert Melillo discusses the importance of language and verbal development and the corresponding milestones in his book Disconnected Kids. A delay in these milestones can offer cues as to whether a child has functional disconnection syndrome, a disconnection between the left and right sides of the developing brain and his proposed cause of disorders such as autism, Asperger’s syndrome, ADHD, dyslexia, and obsessive-compulsive disorder.

My son has a Non-Verbal Learning Disorder. He had a difficult time communicating and he was easily frustrated. He did not seem to understand things and he had very low self-esteem. He did not sleep well and it seemed like he always had a stomach ache. After only three months in the Brain Balance program, we have seen so many changes in him. I give Brain Balance all the credit for the changes in him. The Brain Balance assessment gave us so much detailed information about our son, and the quality of care was excellent. My son was always happy to go to Brain Balance. I would certainly recommend Brain Balance to other parents.
