Dr. Robert Melillo
Dr. Robert Melillo is an internationally known lecturer, author, educator, researcher and clinician in the areas of neurology, rehabilitation, neuropsychology and neurobehavioral disorders in children. He’s also an expert in nutrition with more than 20 years of clinical experience.
Dr. Melillo’s professional expertise and professional drive to find a cure for neurobehavioral disorders started 15 years ago after seeing the life-altering changes that occurred within a child he had worked with. From that point, he has devoted himself to the study of learning disabilities and behavioral disorders in children.
Driven by his deep interest in and intensive studies of neuro-behavioral challenges he developed Hemispheric Integration Therapy (H.I.T.) – a multi-modal approach to the remediation of ADHD, dyslexia, autism, Asperger’s, Tourette’s, learning disabilities, and processing disorders along with other neurobehavorial disabilities found in children. This approach is the precursor to and foundation for the current day Brain Balance Program® which Dr. Mellilo founded in 2003 to help children with neuro-behavioral deficits improve their academic, social and behavioral functions.
Since 2006, Dr. Melillo has been an adjunct professor of functional neuroanatomy for the graduate doctoral neuropsychology program at Touro College, NY and Leeds Metropolitan University, England. He is also an associate professor of clinical neurology and childhood behavioral disorders at The Carrick Institute, in FL. He holds a master’s degree in Neuroscience and is currently completing his PhD in Clinical Rehabilitation Neuropsychology. He is board certified in Chiropractic Neurology and is the former chairman of the American Board of Chiropractic Neurology.
In 2004, Dr. Melillo published his first textbook, Neuro-behavioral Disorders of Childhood: An Evolutionary Perspective. Disconnected Kids, his first book for parents, was released in January of 2009 by Perigree (a division of Penguin) and met with overwhelming response.
Dr. Melillo still actively works with his colleagues at Brain Balance™ Centers in Ronkonkoma and Rockville Centre, New York. In addition, he is Executive Director of the F.R. Carrick Research Institute for Clinical ergonomics, Rehabilition and Applied Neurosciences (CERAN). He is also President of the Foundation for Cognitive Neuroscience.
