The following is a letter written by a Brain Balance parent to Jenny McCarthy, whose son was diagnosed with autism several years ago.
Dear Jenny McCarthy,
I saw you recently on the Oprah show sharing your experience as a mother with a child given the diagnosis of autism. I am personally writing you this letter as I am a mother who understands your pain and heartache in trying to heal your child. It has been a year and a half since my daughter Lori was diagnosed with PDD. There is hope for children with autism and other neurobehavioral disorders — it’s called Brain Balance. She is now completely healed thanks to the Brain Balance program and our faith.
In September of 2006, I walked into a Brain Balance Atlanta lecture to hear about a cutting edge approach that focuses on improving the functioning of children who fall on the spectrum. When I walked in I hid the fact that my heart was bitter and my soul was weakened. But mostly I was scared, and I was not as confident in what I was doing as I let on to be. I quite honestly did not want to go and hear one more thing. I did not want to get my hopes up anymore.
What I heard in Dr. Pete Scire’s Brain Balance lecture was life altering, not only for my daughter but for myself. He explained how autism, ADD and other disorders on the spectrum are due to Functional Disconnection Syndrome. The right and left hemispheres of the brain are not communicating, so my child and others are disconnected from themselves and the world. Miraculously all the pieces of the puzzle finally fit. It was just what I was looking for and always knew in the depths of my soul as a mother.
When we started the Brain Balance Program, Lori was only five and was not responsive to anything around her. She was erratic, incomprehensible, and detached. And what was devastating and even more heartbreaking was she was only at a 2 ½ year old age level on almost all levels of development, including growth. In the matter of 24 weeks Lori scored at a 6 year old level in almost all levels of development, especially growth.
She is now a happy active, loving, responsive, peaceful, glowing, beautiful little girl. And she is not stupid and lifeless. She never was. I never knew her to be. In fact she makes my heart smile and everyone around her smile. And to look at her as if you met her for the first time, you would have never realized that she was once in a world so unreachable. She is the reason I exist in life and the reason I now wake up every morning. Just to see her glowing face hop in my bed and say “Good Morning, Mom! What’s for breakfast”!
I sit here and write you this letter so you too can realize no matter who you are, or whatever it is you have accomplished, or whatever it is you believe in, trust me when I say heart-to-heart, mother-to-mother, parent-to-parent, believe in Brain Balance, and the words that you wait to hear that can pour from your child. Especially for the first time in five years, when you hear the words, “I love you mommy!” These were Lori’s first complete words, emotions, comprehension, expression all rolled up into one beautiful surprise gift received only after three weeks of Brain Balance. I cannot express to you what ran through my heart or my soul or my mind. It was all my dreams for her coming true right before my eyes and it was surreal, still is! But what were even more astounding were all the changes in her in such a short amount of time that I nor any other therapist or all of the therapies combined could even accomplish in five years. I want your child to experience the life that I knew, and the staff of Brain Balance envisioned Lori to have…. A TYPICAL LIFE!
I know now that because of Brain Balance and what I have left is a healing process, that has completely erased all the pain and heartbreak and finally replaced it with all the leaps and bounds of a perfectly innocent six year old girl. A little girl once looked upon as a hopeless human being, now rising above all that life will offer her.
And for me well all I can say is, I can safely sleep in peace. Peace in knowing that there are people that finally understand what we are going through and what it is we feel. Brain Balance is a place that is non-judgmental, opening, and balanced. So with this in mind, I reach out to you and implore you to trust me on this journey. And know that Brain Balance is the answer to reaching inside your child and unveil to the world the greatest masterpiece ever.
